- Then I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia.
Paul needed to leave Jerusalem because the Greek-speaking Jews (Hellenists) sought to kill him. He was preaching Jesus boldly, disputing against them.
When the brothers learned of this, they brought him down to Caesarea and then sent him off to Tarsus where he was originally from. (Acts 9:29, 30)
To reach Tarsus, Paul went through the regions of Syria and Cilicia which were on the way.
Galatians 1:22
- And I was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that are in Christ.
Paul only stayed in Jerusalem for 15 days on his first journey. So, it is understandable that Paul was still unknown in person to the churches of Judea that were scattered around the region.
But they only heard, "He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy." (Acts 1:23)
And the Christians that were scattered around Judea glorified God because of Paul who was saved by God graciously (Acts 1:24).
