Paul says in this passage that if we turn to a different gospel (a false gospel), it is like turning away from Jesus because it was Him who called us in the first place when we heard the gospel.
Paul preached to Galatians the true gospel of Jesus Christ, and Jesus called Galatians through Paul's preaching. This is why Paul said, "who called you in the grace of Christ."
It was in the grace of Christ Jesus that He called us into His kingdom through the good news of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
There were some people in Galatia who were distorting the gospel of God by saying that you need to do certain things instead of, or in addition to, their belief in Jesus to be saved.
We are not saved by works of the law, and certainly not by by observing days and months and seasons and years! (Galatians 4:10)
There is only one gospel, and we are to believe that one gospel delivered to Paul by the Lord Jesus Himself.
That gospel is the forgiveness of sins through faith in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Romans 10:9
- because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
There is no other gospel. We are to believe in the one gospel. And if we turn away from this gospel as preached by Paul, it'd be like deserting Jesus who called us in His grace.
Oh, how terrible would that be!! So let us learn and hold onto the pure gospel of Jesus Christ as revealed in His word!! Amen.
